Astrid Lindgren, kiu forpasis antaŭ kvar jaroj, estas populara celo por Esperantaj tradukantoj scipovantaj la svedan lingvon; jam aperis de ŝi La fratoj leonkoro, Emilo de Smolando, Ronjo, rabista filino (elektronike) kaj kompreneble la ĉiam populara Pipi Ŝtrumpolonga. Nun ESE donis al ni libron ŝian el 1954 por geknaboj: Mio, mia filo.

Temas pri sveda knabo Bo kiu eskapas el sia stokholma orfa hejmo al la Lando Fora, kies reĝo evidentiĝas lia patro. La Lando Fora estas kvazaŭ utopio, sed sur la horizonto videblas nigra nubo: la Lando Ekstera, regata de la fikruela kavaliro Ĥat, al kiu plaĉas ŝiri la korojn el geknaboj kaj anstataŭi por ili ŝtonajn korojn. Kaj ŝajnas, ke ĝuste Bo, nun konata kiel Mio, estas la antaŭdirita savanto, kiu batalos kontraŭ kaj venkos super kavaliro Ĥat.

Por mi, la komenco estis iom teda; Bo alkutimiĝas al la Lando Fora, trovas novajn amikojn, konatiĝas kun la patro, ricevas belan blankan ĉevalon Miramo … kaj, kompreneble, aŭdas multon pri kavaliro Ĥat. Komence ĉe paĝo 52 la takto de la rakonto plirapidiĝas kaj ni sekvas Mion kaj lian amikon Jum-Jumon en la Landon Eksteran kaj al la kastelo de kavaliro Ĥat. Kiel naŭjara knabo povas venki super kelkmiljara fikruelulo, tion mi tenos sekreta, sed mencios nur magian glavon kaj mantelon de nevidebleco …

Ĝenerale interesa infanlibro, kun kelkaj ĝenaj tajperaroj kaj unu tro ofta gramatika fuŝo (progreso de verbtempoj, kiu ne ekzistas en Esperanto). Multaj belaj ilustraĵoj nigrablankaj de Ilon Wikland.

Astrid Lindgren, who passed away four years ago, is a popular target for Esperanto translators who know Swedish; books of hers that have already appeared are The Lionheart Brothers, Emil of Smaaland, Ronia the Robber’s Daughter (in electronic format) and, of course, the ever popular Pipi Longstockings. Now ESE has given us a children’s book of hers from 1954: Mio, My Son.

The story is about a Swedish boy Bo who escapes from his Stockholm orphan’s home to the Distant Country, whose king turns out to be his father. The Distant Country is a sort of utopia, but a black cloud is visible on the horizon: the Outer Country, ruled by the cruel cavalier Khat, who likes to tear out the hearts of boys and girls and replace them with hearts of stone. And it seems that it is Bo, now known as Mio, who is the prophesied savior who will battle against and conquer cavalier Khat.

For me, the beginning was somewhat boring; Bo gets used to the Distant Country, finds new friends, gets to know his father, receives a beautiful white horse Wonderlove … and, of course, hears a lot about cavalier Khat. Beginning on page 52 the pace of the story speeds up and we follow Mio and his friend Yum-Yum into the Outer Country and to the castle of cavalier Khat. How a nine-year-old boy can conquer a several-millenia-old evildoer, well, I’ll keep that a secret, but will mention only a magic sword and a cloak of invisibility …

A generally interesting chilren’s book, with a few troublesome typos and one too common grammatical error (progression of tenses, which doesn’t exist in Esperanto). Many lovely black-and-white illustrations by Ilon Wikland.
