What? You say you recognize the plot? You think that this is a rip-off of 1967’s Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner? Nonsense! Lovely Theresa Jones (Zoe Saldana) is bringing her boy friend home to spend the weekend at her home and visit the party at which her parents will renew their vows. But she’s forgotten to mention to the parents one minor fact about boy friend Simon Green (Aston Kutcher). He’s white. What? You say you recognize the plot? You think that this is a rip-off of 1967’s Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner? Nonsense! In that movie, people like Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier attempted to make a serious statement about race relations at a period in American history when they were (again) at the crossroads. In the current movie, people like Bernie Mac and the above mentioned participants attempt to make jokes. Mostly, they fail miserably, though one or two of the black jokes Simon stupidly lets himself be cajoled into repeating at the dinner table are moderately amusing (not all of them, by any means). Howcum Simon didn’t insist on Percy Jones (Mac) replying in kind with a few amusing white jokes? Well, it has a happy ending. That’s something, anyway. Feedback

| Don Harlow bio info. Born longer ago than he cares to admit, Don Harlow has worked as a military weather forecaster, neophyte astronomer, computer programmer and office manager. His primary avocations are reading science-fiction and fantasy and promoting the international language Esperanto. He has successfully raised three daughters and a son, the oldest of whom (Gwen) is responsible for designing this site and giving it to him as a Christmas present. Movies are, for him, a pleasant way of passing an afternoon or evening; his only connection with the movie industry consists in a long-ago four week period during which he worked as an usher at the Lake Theater in Oswego, Oregon.
